News in NAV 2016

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 includes all the functionality that a company needs.

Workflows

In NAV 2016 it is now possible both to use and to set up new workflows. In this context, a workflow is the course of a business process from start to finish. For example, the functionality we saw in earlier versions for authorization requests and approvals is an example of a workflow, which is now replaced by the new overall ability to create workflows.

The new possibility to set up workflows makes Dynamics NAV to an effective ERP solution because in this way you can ensure that a business process or a series of business processes are carried out by specific rules of one or more users. Dynamics NAV 2016 has standard templates for workflows but user-specific workflows can be defined

Incoming documents

In some cases, business transactions is not recorded in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 from the start. Instead an external document comes into your business as an e-mail attachment or as a paper document, you can scan and archive. This is typical for purchases where this kind of incoming document files is received in the form of receipts for payments or small purchases.

Other examples of electronic incoming document files can be documents from trading partners with whom you have agreed to exchange documents electronically or from an external OCR/text-recognition service that analyzes the documents and then post the data in Dynamics NAV. For example you can now electronically receive invoices in Dynamics NAV and then create them as purchase invoices in the system.

Electronic document dispatch

As an alternative to e-mail attachments, you can send and receive business documents electronically in Dynamics NAV 2016. An electronic document is defined by a standard compliant file that represents a company's document, such as an invoice from a supplier which can be received and converted to a purchase invoice in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. The exchange of the electronic documents between two trading partners are carried out by an external supplier of document exchange services. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 ensures a consistent document exchange that supports dispatch and receiving of electronic invoices and credit notes from the leading providers of document exchange services.

When receiving incoming documents in the form of PDF or image files you can have an external OCR / text-recognition service which generates the electronic documents you subsequently can convert to document records in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016. This functionality has been missing in Dynamics NAV.
