Dynamics NAV 2016 and C5 are being phased out

Microsoft is phasing out several older solutions, including Dynamics C5 and NAV 2016, which are now reaching end of support. This means an end to free security updates and increased risk – making it important to plan upgrades well in advance.

Dynamics solutions reach end-of-support

Microsoft is phasing out several older Dynamics versions and a range of other solutions, which are now reaching their so-called 'end-of-support'.

After 10 years, Dynamics NAV 2016 and Dynamics C5 2016 reach end of support and are officially retired

This includes Dynamics C5 2016 and Dynamics NAV 2016, which are now officially retired after approximately 10 years.

End of Support

EoS (End of Support) is the point in time when a vendor stops providing updates, security patches, and technical support for software or hardware, marking that the product is being phased out of use.

The 10 solutions that have reached end of support are:

  • Dynamics NAV 2016
  • Dynamics CS 2016
  • Microsoft Application Virtualization Hosting 5.1 for Windows Desktop
  • Microsoft Application Virtualization Hosting 5.0 for Windows Desktop
  • Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management 4.0.
  • Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.1
  • Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0
  • User Experience Virtualization 2.1
  • Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Monitoring 2.5
  • Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 10.0
Phasing out

When Microsoft retires its solutions and removes them, it marks the final end of a product’s lifecycle, where the solution is fully discontinued. This applies to products that do not have a predefined end-of-life date.

Increased risk of security vulnerabilities

When a solution reaches end of support, Microsoft stops providing free security updates. Over time, this makes systems more vulnerable to security threats, although extended security updates may be available for purchase for a limited period in some cases.

Microsoft generally follows a four-phase product lifecycle:

  1. First, mainstream support
  2. Then extended support, where only security updates are provided
  3. Then end of support, where updates stop
  4. Finally, retirement, where the product is fully discontinued

For businesses, this means it is important to plan upgrades in good time to ensure continued operations, security, and compliance.
