New planned functionality

Below is an overview of the new features for Business Central which, as part of Dynamics 365 2021 release wave 2 and the release of Business Central 19, are scheduled for release from October 2021 to March 2022.

As many of the features at the time of writing have not yet been released, delivery times may change and the expected functionality may not be released at all.

In the General Availability column, the functionality will be released within the specified month. The exact delivery date can be any day within this month. For already published functions, the full date is displayed, ie. including the exact release date.

The check mark (✓) indicates which functions have already been released for public preview or early access and for public preview, early access and general availability.

Application improvements

With Business Central 19, which is released with Dynamics 365 2021 release wave 2, Microsoft delivers a number of updates in some of the most user-requested areas for improvement, for example in areas such as finance and supply chain management.

Better integration with Microsoft 365

In Business Central 2021 release wave 2, Microsoft continues to invest in better integration with Excel. Support for the collaboration processes in Teams will also be improved in the upcoming update, which means that you can add Business Central pages into a Teams channel.

Country and regional expansion

The demand for Dynamics 365 Business Central online is growing and Microsoft is therefore increasing the global availability of the cloud ERP solution to cover even more countries and regions, so that small and medium-sized businesses worldwide can achieve more by gaining full control over their business.

Development

Also with 2021 Dynamics 365 release wave 2, Microsoft is investing in a wide range of development tools for the Business Central developers. This means, among other things, that the AL language is made even stronger, the rest gives developers an experience of working more smoothly and efficiently.

Management and administration

As part of the 2021 release wave 2 for Business Central, Microsoft is providing a number of administration and management functions that aim to assist administrators and IT professionals with setting up, securing, administering and monitoring customer environments.

Microsoft Power Platform

With Business Central 2021 release wave 2, Microsoft improves the direct integration with Microsoft Dataverse and Microsoft Power Platform, which includes Power BI.

Modern clients

In Dynamics 365 2021 release wave 2, Microsoft implements a number of client enhancements with a focus on optimized usability, availability, performance, and operational stability.

No matter what industry a company belongs to and whether it is a large or small company, business users expect a reliable service and platform from which they can operate and develop their business. Also in 2021 release wave 2, Microsoft will improve operations and performance for Business Central.
